The Travelers Companies

The Travelers Companies

The Travelers Companies was born in the year 2004, through the merger of Travelers Property Casualty Corp. (originally founded in 1864, and it is a pioneer in the establishment of automobile, commercial airline and space travel policies, among other things) and Saint Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co. (it had been founded in 1853, and it was operational in the whole United States territory by the time it joined forces with Travelers Property Casualty Corp.) Upon the merger, the business adopted “St. Paul Travelers” as their corporate name, until 2007, when it changed to “The Travelers Companies”. It is, nowadays, the largest insurance company in the United States; it occupied the second place in commercial property casualty and the third in personal insurance through its approximately 13,000 independent agents.

The Travelers Companies offers personal insurance (such as home, automobile, and other individual policies), business insurance (it comprises a vast array of property and casualty policies, for the most part) and financial, professional and international insurance (including surety, crime and financial liability policies, plus other property and casualty products aimed at the international market).

Along with other twenty nine companies, Travelers has been (since 2009) part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average -possibly the most cited and popular stock market index in the whole world-, which shows how its component companies trade day by day, as a reference for investors, statisticians, etc.
