Systemax Inc. started its operation in 1949. It was founded as a material handler company, with the name of Global Equipment Company. It was not until 1981 that it started its operations as computer equipment seller. In 1995, it changed its name to Global Directmail and in 1999; it was modified, for the second time to Systemax Inc., name that remains until these days.

The headquarters of the company are located in New York; however, there are offices and stores in other countries that are located in North America and Europe. Besides these stores, Systemax Inc. offers its products through websites and catalogs. These catalogs are also available in all the countries where there are stores. Besides selling, the company manufactures computer accessories.

Systemax Inc. sells personal computers, notebooks, laptops, computer accessories, industrial products, consumer electronics, etc. These products are sold under its brands TigerDirect, Circuit City, CompUSA, Global Computer Supplies, Systemax, Ultra, MISCO and WStore.
