Liz Claiborne, Inc.

Anne Elisabeth Jane “Liz” Claiborne, an American fashion designer (originally born in Belgium in 1929), founded Liz Claiborne, Inc. along with partners Art Ortenberg, Jerome Chazen and Leonard Boxer in the year 1976. The company became the first one to be run by a woman to make the Fortune 500 list ten years after that.

In the year 2009, a decision was made to close all Liz Claiborne outlet stores (a total of 87) in the United States and Puerto Rico due to the deal that was made with JC Penney -a chain of department stores that is present throughout the whole American territory- to distribute all Liz Claiborne merchandise, except for the Liz Claiborne New York brand which was designed by Isaac Mizhari. The latter was set to be distributed exclusively through QVC; an American cable TV channel that is specialized in televised home shopping.

Liz Claiborne Inc. owns more than 40 brands; some of the most well-know include DKNY, Kate Spade, Mexx, Juicy Couture and Lucky Brand Jeans; all of the company’s products were sold in more than 30,000 retail locations around the globe.
